St. Augustine

St. Augustine is the nation’s oldest city, located on the northeast coast of Florida. It is known for its Spanish colonial architecture as well as Atlantic Ocean beaches like St. Augustine Beach and Crescent Beach.

There are a lot of things to do in St. Augustine. Visit the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center. In 2005, St. Augustine’s first black public high school was re-invented as Excelsior Museum and Cultural Center, then became the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center. The museum features exhibits about St. Augustine’s African-American heritage, tracing the history from the beginning, through the Civil War era to the modern day. My friend down at Orlando business phone service, loves to visit St. Augustine when he can.

Another must-see is Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, the original site of the Nation’s oldest city. Located in the area first explored by Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513, historic St. Augustine is the oldest successful European settlement in the US. Colonial America started here, 55 years before the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock.

Another interesting place to visit is the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum. The Museum serves 225,000 visitors each year. The museum researches aspects of maritime heritage including boat building and the history of the local shrimping industry, and maintains a growing collection of World War II artifacts focusing on the history of the U.S. Coast Guard in St. Augustine. Admission also includes a tour of artifact conservation areas featuring artifacts from historic shipwrecks. Visitors can climb 219 steps up the historic lighthouse to see a breathtaking view of St. Augustine and the waters of the oldest continually occupied European port city in the continental United States.

St. Augustine, Florida also offers a variety of outdoor activities, like golfing, fishing and charter boat rentals, horseback riding, parks and nature preserves for hiking and camping. There is something for everyone in St. Augustine. The heritage and culture of the old city are still deeply relevant even today.

Visiting the Everglades

The Everglades is an large area of land in southern Florida, about an hour from Miami, and consists of 1.5 million acres of wetland. At least one million people from all over the world visit the Everglades each year. There are three entrances to Everglades National Park and they are not connected. There are three main entry points: the Gulf Coast Visitor Center, which is closest to Naples and south of Everglades city; the Shark Valley area; and the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, the park’s main headquarters.

The climate in Florida is mild. The average annual temperatures for South Florida and the Keys are usually in the mid-70s . There are two seasons at the Everglades National Park: the wet season and the dry season. The wet season runs from Mid-May to November and the dry season runs from December to mid-May. Dry season is also the busy season because of the warm winters that attract the largest variety of wading birds and their predators. There are all kinds of things to do in the Everglades. You can boat, go canoeing or kayaking, bird watch, bike the trails, camping, fishing and hiking. You can also enjoy a guided tour through the park. Concession boat captains narrate boat tours along the mangrove coast at both Flamingo and the Gulf Coast, and Tram Tour naturalists guide your explorations of the Shark River Slough.

The Everglades are home to a wide variety of wildlife within the park. One animal everyone wants to see? The Florida alligator. Dangerous, but exciting to catch on a tour. The Everglades are also home to manatees, white-tailed deer, bobcat, and crocodile.

Congress established the Everglades as a National Park in 1934. The park has since been designated as an International Biosphere Reserve, a Wetland of International Importance and a World Heritage Site.

Panama City Beach

During the summer Panama City Beach is host to numerous baseball and softball tournaments. PCB has an excellent facility called Frank Brown Park where most of the games are played. Once your team has decided to play in a tournament in PCB, usually the next issue that comes up is where to stay.

You should book accommodations as soon as you know the dates your team will play to ensure the best chance of getting what you want.

Panama City Beach has a large variety of vacation rentals available to ball teams ranging from hotels to condos to houses as well as great shopping and excellent restaurants. If you are wondering about where to stay maybe, I can help. I know the most about Panama City Beach condos, so that will be my focus.

Before starting to make reservations, you should determine what rooms you need. My friend who is a roofer Buford GA books the room at least 6 months in advance every time.  Does each family want their condo? Do some parents plan to share a condo? If it works like the soccer tournaments that we went to with our kids there may also be an adult with several children. Most beachfront condos have Read more »
